Robin Marshment, M.A., C. Psych. Assoc. is a Clinical Psychological Associate at Healing Recovery Centre, registered with the College of Psychologists of Ontario. She holds a degree in School and Child Clinical Psychology and brings more than twenty years of experience in eating disorder treatment, much of it with adolescents and families across York Region.
She’s trained in Family Based Therapy (FBT), Emotion Focused Family Therapy (EFFT) and Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT), Dialectic Behaviour Therapy (DBT) and works from a trauma-informed, collaborative, strength-based stance. She describes herself as an eclectic therapist with a calm and compassionate approach, which in practice means using what’s in front of her rather than running a family through a protocol that doesn’t fit them.
She works with children, teens, young adults to age 25, and parents and caregivers supporting their loved ones.
Robin’s career spans community and public mental health as well as private practice. That’s useful in a concrete way: she knows what the public system can and can’t do, roughly how long things take, and where families tend to get stuck when they’re waiting on one service while using another. She has also supervised and trained many students and newer clinicians over her career, thus keeping up with all current research and best practices in the field.
Not only is Robin a highly skilled therapist and mentor she’s also a mom of a high-performance athlete and is well versed in raising teenagers. Outside of her career as a therapist she’s done the early morning drives, the complex family dynamics, the high highs and low lows and everything in between that comes with raising kids into independent and well functioning adults. Robin is a person and a parent like many of her clients and brings her humanness into the room.

The practical questions parents actually ask
Where does she see people? In person at our Newmarket office, and virtually anywhere in Ontario. The virtual option matters in particular for, athletes travelling to compete, students who’ve moved away for a program, families already driving three evenings a week.
When? Daytime and evening appointments. Evenings are usually the sticking point for families with a teenager in school and a training schedule, so it’s worth saying plainly that they exist.
Is it covered? Robin is a Psychological Associate registered with the College of Psychologists of Ontario. Some extended health plans cover services provided by a Psychological Associate under psychological services, and some name psychologists only, so it’s worth checking your specific plan wording. We’re glad to help you work out what to look for.
Is she taking new clients? Yes, she has openings currently.
For referring professionals
If you’re a family doctor, paediatrician, dietitian, school counsellor, coach or athletic therapist weighing a referral: Robin is a Clinical Psychological Associate registered with the College of Psychologists of Ontario, with 20+ years in eating disorder treatment and formal training in FBT, EFFT and EFT. She works with children, youth and young adults to age 25, and offers parent coaching, groups and workshops, and case consultation alongside direct clinical work. She sees clients in person in Newmarket and virtually across Ontario, daytime and evenings, and has current availability.
Her career spans community/public mental health and private practice, and she has supervised students and newer clinicians throughout it — which makes her a practical person to consult when a family is moving between services or waiting on one.
She’s a strong fit for adolescent and young adult presentations where eating, anxiety, perfectionism and rigidity present together, and for families who need the parents held alongside the young person. Sport being part of the picture is well within her wheelhouse.
Referrals and consultations can be arranged through the clinic. If you’re unsure whether it’s the right fit, a conversation first is welcome.
If you’re at the beginning of this
You don’t need a diagnosis. You don’t need the right words for it. You don’t need to be sure it’s bad enough.
Many of the families we speak with have been sitting with a worry for months, waiting for it to either resolve on its own or become obvious enough to justify a phone call. Both of those are hard places to sit.
We offer a free 15-minute call — no diagnosis needed, no commitment — to talk through what’s going on and whether Robin is the right person for your family.
