Ash teaches live from Tulum. Attend from anywhere, or join us in the room at Healing Recovery Centre — in-person attendees will have the opportunity for networking after the training.

What happens when a client freezes, dissociates, cries, shakes, or unexpectedly goes into a trauma response in your session?

Right now you’re replaying a session from three weeks ago, still not sure whether what you said helped or landed wrong.

Right now you’re calling your practice trauma-informed because you’re gentle and you’re careful, and you’re often wondering if that’s actually the same thing.

Right now you’re watching someone’s breathing change on your table, deciding in real time between saying something and saying nothing.

Right now you’re hearing “yeah, that’s fine” from a client and not fully believing it — and not knowing what to do with not believing it.

Right now you’re so worried about overstepping that you’ve started backing away from the hard moment altogether, leaving your client feeling like you can’t hold all they are bringing with them.

And what you want more than anything is to be able to stay steady when something big surfaces — without stepping outside your scope, and without leaving the person alone in it.

Trauma-informed became a word people put on a website.

You are kind. You are careful. You would never knowingly hurt anyone who came to you for help.

That was never the question.

Harm in healing spaces rarely comes from careless practitioners. It comes from good ones who were never taught what their authority does in a room — or what to do in the thirty seconds after something surfaces.

Being trauma-informed isn’t a disposition. It isn’t a disclaimer on your intake form.

It’s a set of practices — around consent, power, scope, and repair — that hold up when a session becomes bigger than you expected it to be.

Let’s make sure you’re in the right room

This training is for you if

  • You work with bodies, breath, energy, or emotion — bodywork, massage, yoga, breathwork, energy work, coaching — and people’s histories show up whether or not that’s what they booked
  • You’ve had a session go somewhere you weren’t prepared for, and you’re still thinking about it
  • You want language for what you’re already sensing but can’t name
  • You’re a therapist or clinician who wants to sharpen the consent and authority piece specifically
  • You work adjacent to ceremony, plant medicine, or altered states
  • You freeze up when someone’s emotion gets big, and you’d rather learn than keep avoiding it
  • You’ve been practising a long time and you’d rather keep examining your work than assume it’s fine

This training is not for you if

  • You’re looking for a certification or a credential to treat trauma — this is an introductory training, not a qualification
  • You want to learn to process trauma with clients — that’s a different scope, and this training will show you exactly where yours ends
  • You want a script of things to say — you’ll leave with tools and awareness, not a set of lines
  • You’re hoping for reassurance that your practice is already fine — we’ll be examining assumptions, including comfortable ones
  • You need clinical supervision for a specific active situation — reach out to us directly instead, that’s a different conversation

This won’t turn you into a trauma processor. It will make you a more skilled, more aware, more genuinely trauma-informed practitioner in the work you already do.

The four hours

What You’ll Learn

Module one

The Ecology of Consent: Reclaiming the Body’s Voice

Consent is not a moment. It’s a living, ongoing negotiation between two nervous systems.

We’ll look at what it means for agreement to be felt in the body, held in relationship, and honoured as a process — clinically sound and spiritually resonant at the same time.

You’ll work with somatic discernment to identify your own body’s cues for yes, no, and maybe, and learn to recognise those same signals in the people you work with.

We’ll examine the “Polite Yes” — how even a gentle invitation from a practitioner can land as a directive, and how conditioned compliance can often stand in for real agreement.

And we’ll sit with ambiguity: the difference between a protective no, a temporarily frozen system, and a healthy need for more time. Plus practices for repair when connections and client to practitioner relationships experience ruptures.

Module two

Mapping Authority & Accountability in Spiritual Care Spaces

Harm in healing spaces rarely announces itself, and it rarely travels alone.

This module offers a non-shame-based framework for how authority and vulnerability interact — usually invisibly. It gives you a lens for your own practice, and language to help clients make sense of harm they may have experienced in other healing relationships.

We’ll explore three states of practitioner authority: unexamined, defended, and accountable.

We’ll name the amplifiers specific to wellness and spiritual spaces — altered states, lineage frameworks, and the sheer hope people carry through your door — all of which quietly expand a facilitator’s influence.

And we’ll work through case examples and scenarios to reach the core of it: The Choice Point. The moment discomfort or harm surfaces in the room, and what you do next.

Module One is the anchor. Everything in Module Two draws from it.

Ash, the facilitator of this training

Your facilitator

Meet Ash

Ash is a licensed psychotherapist and clinical supervisor with over fifteen years supporting people through trauma, mental health challenges, and life transitions.

Her clinical work is rooted in emotion-focused, trauma-informed, and somatic approaches. She’s certified in Emotion-Focused Therapy, serves as a Supervisor with the Institute of Emotion-Focused Family Therapy, and is completing somatic certification. She specialises in complex PTSD, eating disorders, OCD, and addiction.

Alongside that training, Ash has spent years in experiential learning with psychedelics and plant medicines — including in spaces influenced by Shipibo-Konibo, Mestizo, and Mayan healers in the Amazon and Mexico. What began as professional interest became a personal and spiritual path.

Her work brings clinical science and neuroscience into respectful dialogue with traditional healing systems, with a firm commitment to safety, integrity, and ethical practice.

Ash’s work is also informed by her own recovery from complex PTSD — an embodied understanding of the long arc of it.

She’ll be teaching this training live from Tulum, Mexico.

To learn more about Ash and the work she offers, check out her website rosabacara.com.

She teaches this material from both sides of it: the clinical room and the ceremonial one.

Here’s what you’ll walk away with

  • A way to read your own body’s cues for yes, no, and maybe — and to recognise those same signals in the people you work with
  • The ability to notice a polite yes in a client, and tools to actually use once you’ve noticed this people pleasing pattern in your client.
  • A clear distinction between a protective no, a frozen system, and someone who simply needs more time, and tools to support your clients in moments.
  • A framework for your own authority in the room paired with reflective practices to enhance your integrity, ethics and accountability in healing spaces.
  • The ability to spot the choice point inside of yourself when discomfort surfaces and how to respond in a way that isn’t freezing, over-apologizing, or going against your instincts.
  • Practices for repair after a rupture, so a hard moment doesn’t end the relationship, do more harm or fall into spiritual bypassing
  • A clearer line around your scope — what’s yours to hold, and where a referral begins
  • Language to help a client make sense of harm they’ve experienced in a previous healing relationship
  • Reflective practices to carry back into your work the next day

Not a script. A different quality of attention, and something to do with it.

The Healing Recovery Centre team, photographed together outdoors

Our whole team is taking this training.

We didn’t put this training together to sell it. We booked it with Ash, because, well, she’s amazing and a wealth of knowledge, and also because our team, while very skilled in trauma-informed care have noticed the climate of people’s pain changing in the last several years. This change further emphasizes the importance of truly being well-versed in trauma-informed practices, not just as a skill to learn but for it to be woven into the integrity of who we are and the services we offer.

With the rapid increase of people turning to more holistic and spiritual approaches for healing, we as a team, along with Ash, have noticed and experienced harm done out of good intentions. Whether through practitioners and spiritual leaders using spiritual bypassing to evade accountability and repair when the healing process experiences ruptures, or practitioners wanting to ease someone’s pain with reassurance or finding the positive or anything in between.

What we know to be true is that often people who use their gifts and skills to put healing into the world have no bad intention — the opposite, in fact — but no certificate program or training is talking about what trauma-informed care truly looks like in deep healing work.

This is why we reached out to Ash to develop this training for our team, and opening it up to the community around us felt really important.

The work we all do is SO important, and doing it with deep integrity and awareness is what makes it so healing for the people we support.

Questions people ask

Is Ash in the room if I attend in person?

No — Ash teaches live from Tulum and joins on screen for both groups. The in-person option is about being with other practitioners: working through the material in a room together, and time afterward to actually talk to each other. If being physically with Ash matters to you, online and in person are the same experience on that front.

Do I need clinical training to attend?

No. This is built for practitioners without clinical training as much as for those with it. The practitioners most exposed to these dynamics are often the ones with the least formal training in them.

Is this a certification?

No. It’s a four-hour introductory training. You’ll leave with a certificate of attendance, tools you can use immediately, and a much clearer sense of your own scope — not a credential to treat trauma.

I’m already a therapist. Is this too basic for me?

The consent and authority material isn’t standard in most clinical training. Our own clinicians are taking it. If you’ve been practising fifteen years and have never been asked to map your own authority in a room, there’s something here for you.

Which rate should I pick?

Whichever one is true for you. There’s nothing to prove and nobody checking. Every tier gets the same seat.

Will it be recorded?

This training will be recorded, but the recording will not be provided to participants.

What if I can’t make October 5?

If you cannot attend on this date, please contact Ash through her website to connect with her for future learning opportunities: rosabacara.com

A note on the material.

We’ll be discussing harm that happens in healing spaces, including in practitioner relationships. If you carry your own experience of that, come knowing it may land close. You’re welcome to step away at any point, and you won’t be asked to share anything about yourself.

You already care. That was never in question.

This is about having something to do with the care.

A language for what you’re sensing. A framework for the moment it gets big. A clearer line around what’s yours to hold and what isn’t.

Four hours. One evening.
